Bronzes in China

One of several wonderful bronze statues we saw around the country, this one in Guangzhou. My favorite was a life-sized bronze park bench with a modern-dressed young business woman seated on the bench using her laptop, with a tall Chinese man in ancient dress and long hair braid and little hat standing behind the bench bending over slightly to watch her work. We saw that one from the bus and weren’t able to get a picture of it unfortunately.

And to think that in our own lifetimes China went through the Cultural Revolution when all books were destroyed and all scholars persecuted. Amazing that China now has art work promoting intelligence and independent thought. What a turn around. Gives me hope that SE Asia/India can rebuild quickly after the tsunami (sp?) disaster. jerilynn
